The third DCZ Open Day attracts many visitors

The third edition of the Open Day in the framework of the German-Chinese Agricultural Week 2017 DCZ opened its doors to the public on 29thNovember 2017 in Beijing.

This event in a great manner showcased the extent, the diversity and the high level of the bilateral cooperation between Germany and China in the field of food and agriculture. Germany is a strong partner to accompany China’s way towards the development of a sustainable, environmentally friendly and modern agricultural.

In total over 190 stakeholders from business, science and politics of both two countries came together to share their current efforts, exchange future solutions and find matching cooperation partners and institutions. Besides short presentations, information was displayed through posters and exhibition stands.

After welcome greetings by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center (FECC) under the MOA, DCZ, with its underlining components and projects, introduced itself.

The DCZ including an office in Beijing and the three demonstration projects are uniquely positioned to implement a comprehensive approach to the challenges and opportunities of today’s agricultural sector. DCZ with its Agricultural Policy Dialogue (APD) contributes to the discussion of regulatory measures that are suitable for promoting the widespread use and application of sustainable agricultural approaches. DCZ’s Agribusiness Dialogue supports the kind of business cooperation that underpins the exchange of technology and know-how. And the DCZ Science and Technology Platform accompany the experimental and analytical work by providing scientific expertise.

An APD session summarized the work of 2017 topic on Agricultural Subsidies and distributed a Policy Brief with joint policy recommendations. After the annual review and outlook of the BMEL demonstration projects on Animal Breeding, Crop Production and Training the Open Day continued with presentation of other Sino-German initiatives, which used the setting DCZ provided them. The participants learned about initiatives in the organic farming sector, partnerships from vocational schools, other GIZ projects and forthcoming happenings such as the launch of a DCZ expert database. The discussion at the end was very lively with high participation. In particular Chinese institutions had concrete requests. Here DCZ could fulfill its role as a networking platform to link and bring people together.
